Doctor as Teacher

Why Naturopathic Medicine?

After earning her undergraduate degree in Forestry, Dr. Troy started working seasonal forestry jobs. She developed a strong interest in plants and their medicinal properties. She enjoyed researching and harvesting plants, and creating her own medicinal teas. She considered pursuing a graduate degree in ethnobotany or purchasing a local herbal business, but neither of those options seemed quite right. At the encouragement of her parents, who are a physician and a nurse, she considered the naturopathic medicine program at Bastyr University. Naturopathic medicine turned out to be the perfect fit, and she got a rigorous medical education with emphasis on botanical medicine. Originally from Butte, Dr. Troy enjoys the Montana lifestyle, including hiking, skiing, camping, and more outdoor activities with her family. She has two sons, Henry 14 and Arne 12. Her husband Wakefield Troy is a licensed social worker and works as a therapist at Columbia Falls High School.

Work Experience

She has been licensed in the state of Montana since 2005 and practicing in the Flathead Valley since that time. She ran her own family practice for several years and then spent seven years at Northwest Oncology and Hematology at Kalispell Regional Healthcare. During that time, she cared for cancer patients alongside oncologists, the first naturopath in Western Montana to be included in this type of progressive practice model.
